LAURA FERGUSON... HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP TO FOOD

Laura Ferguson, MA specializes in working with clients who struggle with food addiction. She was invited this summer to begin teaching an ongoing course on developing a healthy relationship with food for the Healthy Lifestyle program at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin. This program is part of a community effort to help patients begin to develop a healthier mindset and lifestyle when it comes to nutrition.

DAVE TURO-SHIELDS BACK IN OFFICE

Dave is active again in the office providing group supervision and offering individual supervision to both associates and interns.  Welcome back Dave, we've missed you!

CHRISTINE TURO-SHIELDS CONTINUES COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

Christine Turo-Shields, ACSW, LCSW, LCAC continues to have multiple offers for speaking engagements which she welcomes!  One of her most popular topics is "Calming the Calamities in Kids" on anxiety management – this topic is also a favorite among professionals as she presented at the State Adoption Conference in July, the IARRCA Conference in September & will be covering this topic at the NASW State Conference in October.  A personal favorite of hers is presenting the "Rocket Science of Raising Gifted Kids."  Like Tamera, they both know that raising gifted kids is "delightful & draining" and keeping up with a gifted kid is challenging.

The overwhelming response of parents & professionals speaks volumes – for several years, Christine has teamed up with Tammie Stewart from Northwestern University Center for Talent Development to share resources for gifted kids.  The NUMATS program allows 3-9th grade gifted kids to take above-level testing & the Jack Kent Cooke scholarship is available for 7th graders.  Christine provides a wealth of information on local & national programs, camps, books, testing, etc, etc.  Over the course of two days in September, Christine & Tammie spoke to over 150 parents, educators & kids at Traders Point Christian Academy, Perry Twp & Center Grove school districts as well as at Kenosis Laugh, Lunch & Learn.  On Thursday, October 11th, she will also be presenting this topic at the Todd Academy, a school
for gifted kids in downtown Indianapolis – this is open to the public.

KATIE RAINES - DEVELOPMENTAL ISSUES...

Katie Raines, MA, NCC has kept busy with trainings as well.  In August, Katie provided staff training on developmental issues & temperament of preschoolers at IUPUI Center for Young Children.  Additionally, as a member of the Johnson County Behavioral Health Coalition, she was asked to present for the Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) for the Franklin Police Department on PTSD & Acute Stress Disorder.  Her specialized training in Domestic Violence & EMDR made her the perfect choice to present this part of the CIT.  This was a community-wide effort among Johnson County agencies to provide mental health training to police officers.

TAMERA PERRY - IDEA KIDS - GIFTED PROGRAM

Tamera Perry, MSW, LSW has expertise with gifted kids and those with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  In August, she attended the Perry Twp Open House for parents of 2nd grade IDEA (high ability) students.  Parents of gifted kids are hungry for information, so she shared a plethora of resources to help feed our gifted kids.  In September, Tamera presented at the IARRCA State Conference, speaking on Autism Spectrum Disorders to professionals who work in residential settings as well as with adopted & foster care children.

I NEVER KNEW ONLINE & PHONE COUNSELING WOULD LEAD HERE . . .

Today my wife and I were able to meet the Director of Counseling for the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia.  She's heading an initiative to be able to provide phone counseling services to over 400,000 at-risk students in the public school systems there.

What an honor to be a part of their journey.  They found us online and saw we were offering a similar service, were state-side and we scheduled todays meeting.  Sometimes we really don't know what will happen when we brush up against someone.  It's truly awe-inspiring.  Here's a picture we took before she left today.

INTRODUCING THE "KENOSIS INSPIRE SERIES"

We are in production mode here at Kenosis. We'll be providing several educational video series on the most important topics you've asked for. Today have a look at 'What is Bipolar Disorder".

KENOSIS NORTH OPENS

We've done it!  Kenosis has joined forces with Carol The Coach and opened offices on the north side of Indianapolis, right off 96th Street.  It seems appropriate that the street were on is called "Counselors Row."  We'll be having at least 3 of our therapists working out of those offices and we're excited to be able to expand and serve the needs of north side clients. Our number for that office is 317-660-1684.  The location is:

9465 Counselors Row
Suite 266
Indianapolis, Indiana 46240

We look forward to bringing the same level of care at our north side location as clients have been accustomed to in Greenwood.

HERE WE GROW AGAIN

Tamera Perry will be staying on board at Kenosis Center.  Tamera was one of our beloved graduate interns and has developed a passion for working with families, special needs children including autism spectrum disorders and adults.  Welcome!

A WARM WELCOME FOR LAURA FERGUSON

We are blessed to announce that Laura Ferguson has joined the Kenosis Center staff in the last month.  Laura brings an energetic and warm presence, which will be immediately noticeably when she takes your calls.  Laura has taken over as our new Intake Coordinator and will be building a practice working with familes and adults.  Check back soon on our therapists page to read her bio.  Welcome aboard Laura!

SINCERE THANKS!

Thank you SO much Katie for your presence in the front office.  You came on board as Intake Coordinator during a huge transition time for Kenosis and were able to slide into this great and challenging position with grace and precision.  You streamlined so many things, including the graduate student orientation process.  We are grateful and excited as you move into full time case management, continuing to work with kids and young adult women.  You're fabulous!

MARITAL ASPERGER'S SUPPORT GROUP

Tamera created the Indy Westside Asperger Marital Support Group to give spouses in a relationship with someone having Asperger’s a place to find support. People attend from all over Indiana. This meeting takes place every third Tuesday of each month at 7p.m. at the Ben Davis Christian Church in Indianapolis.

GRADUATES!!

As a part of our dedication to strengthening the counseling field, while serving a larger community base Kenosis works as a training center for several universities.  We accept 4-8 hand-selected graduate student interns each year at Kenosis.  They are wonderful assets to Kenosis and assist us in extending services to parts of our communities in great need as well as seeing clients at our offices who might not be able to afford counseling services otherwise.

We'd like to personally thank Aaron, Rebekkah and Caitlin for being a part of the Kenosis team & family.  Each of them has brought unique strengths and as they will be graduating this month we are confident they will continue to move forward, grow and learn as they become new assets for other service centers and begin their careers in counseling.

We thank you for the blessing of your are and the blessing you've been to numerous clients at Kenosis Center and in our community.

Stay in touch!
